The Birla Institute of Applied Sciences, Bhimtal or BIAS, Bhimtal, is a sister concern of Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra, Ranchi, India.
This institute has a full 4-year B.Tech course in Electronics & Communication and Computer Sciences and a 3-year MCA affiliated to Uttarakhand Technical University (earlier it was affiliated to Kumaon University). [1] The Institute grants admission on the basis of AIEEE test conducted by CBSE all across India.

Birla Institute Of Applied Sciences(BIAS) is located in the most picturesque surroundings of the lake town of Bhimtal, in the Nainital district of Uttarakhand. The campus is spread over an area of about 10 hectares of prime land amongst the Kumaon hills, thus providing a cool climate and lush green environmental surroundings, ideally conducive for academic pursuit. BIAS Bhimtal is a fully residential institute.
Admissions for BIAS are based on All India level exams in respective fields.
The Institute has synergistic networking with Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra, Ranchi, along with its extension centers at Noida, Allahabad, Jaipur, Muscat, Ras Al Khaimah and Bahrain as well as with other prestigious organizations. It finds its origins in the educational and scientific research endowments of the G. P. Birla Group of Industries.
The institute campus consists of a central academic block, laboratory blocks, workshops, computer centers and staff quarters besides separate hostels for boys and girls. The institute is fully residential and includes the mess, common room. The institute is self-contained with its own security arrangements, co-operative store, cafeteria and a PCO to take care of the sundry needs of the residents.
The central academic block consists of lecture halls, computer labs, a well-equipped library, a Dspace Digital Library and an IEEE Digital Library access. It also houses the conference room and various offices. Two V-SAT connections (HCL Comnet and HUGHES) provide internet connectivity to the computer labs 24 hours a day. We also have high speed Broad Band connectivity in the collage premises. An adequate standby power supply system ensures that power requirements are fulfilled even during power outages.
The Institute is also engaged in social service since very 1975. It runs two mobile vans which go to various places in remote hilly areas. These projects are supported by USAID. Apart from this, collage runs an Echo Socity, Which takes care of some poor villages.
The institute central library is a quite serene place; well equipped with documents that caters the information demand of the student & staff of the institute. The library is currently have collection of around 5000 volumes which contains books, CDs, projects reports etc. the library is growing steadily which approximately 600 documents per year. The library is subscribing 32 periodicals, 16 magazines including technical titles and 16 journals from both national & international publications.
Apart from the university curriculum, our institute also provides various internationally approved training programs and globally accepted certification courses, so that the students can keep pace with the upcoming advancements in technology and with the current demands of the market. These courses provide a cutting edge to the students and help them attain the utmost level of expertise in their chosen fields. Some of these certification courses are:
Trainings are also provided in Multisim, Ultiboard, MATLAB, PC-Hardware, PCB Designing, Open Source Software, AS/400 etc.
The institute also organizes seminars and lectures for providing the students with the up to date knowledge and trends of the corporate world. Professors from various IITs and other domestic and foreign universities and organizations frequently pay visits to our institute for this purpose. These seminars provide an opportunity to the students to interact and share ideas with intellectuals who are renowned for their work and research globally . The placement cell of the institute consists of faculty members as well as students. Many esteemed firms frequently visit the institute to hire examinations and interviews in the campus as their selection procedure.
The institute also makes necessary arrangements for the off-campus placements in companies visiting the sister concerns of the institute. A few companies where current students have their placements are HCL Technologies, Birla Soft, Halliburton, DELL, Indian Army, Ericssion, CMC Ltd., Momentum Pvt Ltd., Allied Electro Magnetic, Torry Harris, Accenture, NIIT, Infosys, TCS, Newgen, Tech Mahindra, Infogain and Impetus.
